Auxiliary Purpose
FLM Fire Protection District Auxiliary (FLMFPDA) is organized exclusively to support the fire fighters and the department for Fort Lewis Mesa Fire Protection District. We are a nonprofit organization with a 501-C 4 status. Our purpose includes but is not limited to: Providing food and water on calls when requested Providing child care for fire fighters and EMT’s when requested Assisting in planning and coordinating social events such as the Christmas party and summer picnic.
Auxiliary Membership and Meetings
Any person in the Ft. Lewis Mesa community - female or male - who is at least 16 years of age may be a member of the FLMFPD Auxiliary. A sincere interest in the purpose of the organization and willingness to help out on a moment’s notice are required. Persons wishing to become members of the auxiliary must attend a meeting and be accepted by a vote of the current membership.
Auxiliary meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Campions’ home (171 Church Hollow Dr.) unless otherwise changed at the previous meeting or when notified by phone tree.
We make every effort to limit the meetings to no more than one hour.
Auxiliary Services
• Food for Fire Calls
We respond only when called. When called by the Fire Department Chief or his representative, we will respond to requests for food and water on an incident scene or at one of the fire stations. The phone tree will be activated and we will usually meet at the South Fire Station (No.1) in Kline and make plans for the food we are providing. Food may be prepared there or in people’s homes. A few members of the auxiliary will deliver the food to sites and stay to serve and clean up.
• Food for Training Events
Occasionally the Auxiliary provides food for training events for the fire fighters.
• Social Events
We plan two social events for the Fire Department yearly - the Christmas party and the summer picnic. Usually these events are partly potluck with some of the meal provided by the Auxiliary and paper products supplied by the Auxiliary.
• Child Care
When fire fighters or EMTs are called out and need childcare, a designated Auxiliary member is available to care for their children. Children may be left only if a signed release has been completed.
• Fund Raisers
Occasionally the Auxiliary will conduct or participate in fundraisers which will supplement donations received to provide the supplies needed.
• Scholarships
The Auxiliary is often the recipient of donations in memory of loved ones. We have established a scholarship program for Fort Lewis Mesa Fire Department Fire Fighters, Jr. Fire fighters and EMT’’s. These scholarships will be financial scholarships for training related expenses that one might incur, such as transportation expenses, day care, books, or fees, etc. in department approved training. The person applying to the auxiliary for assistance must write a letter to the auxiliary stating exactly what the need is and what the cost is. The Chief, administrator, or board must also submit a statement that shows the department approves the training. The auxiliary will screen each application before any funds are awarded.
Members assist by:
A. Keeping some supplies on hand in their own personal freezers, such as bread, ice, and sandwich meat.
B. Bringing large pots to cook food in when preparing meals.
C. Bringing coolers and beverage containers.
D. Helping keep the supplies at the fire station clean and in order.
E. Helping at social events and fundraisers.
