· Knot Fundamentals
o Who: Will Walsh - Instructor
o When/Where: Nov 18, 2008 – Station 3– 7:00 pm to 9:00 PM
o Why: Tying knots are a fundamental required skill for all fire fighters and technical rescuers.
o What: Studentswill learn and practice the following fundamental knots and hitches: Figure 8 (knot, loop follow through, bend, double), Fisherman, Prusik, Water, Double Overhand, Girth Hitch, Clove Hitch, Bowline, Hasty Harness.

§ Dec 5, 2008 – Station 3 - 6:30 to 9:00 PM - Lecture
§ Dec 6, 2008 – Station 3 - 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM – Hands on
o What: Students will learn and practice various aspects of low-angle rope rescue. Training includes pre-planning and size up of rope rescue operations; knots, bends, hitches and anchor systems; belay operations; ascending and descending lines; mechanical advantage systems; patient packaging; and litter tending in the low angle environment. Students will learn how to safely handle low-angle or over-the bank type situations. Special emphasis is placed on maintaining the safety of rescuers, patients and bystanders.
· Low angle rope rescue

o When/Where: January 2009/ to be determined
o What: On our own repetition of skills we learned in the December class.
· Ice water rescue
o Who: To be determined
o When/Where: March 2009/ to be determined
o Why: Identify and demonstrate the application of water/ice rescue procedures given a team assignment, task procedures to follow, personal protective equipment, personal floatation devices, exposure suits, rope, hose, hand tools, and related equipment. So that the equipment is used correctly and the victims are removed safely.
· High angle rope rescue
o Who: To be determined
o When/Where: Summer 2009/to be determined
o Why: Students advance from low angle rescue to progressively more vertical scenarios. Course includes pre-planning and size-up of rope rescue operations; anchor systems; belay operations; ascending and descending; raising and lowering systems; and patient packaging and litter attending, among other skills and techniques. There is wide range of application for the skill and knowledge covered in this course, including canyon, mine, bridge, and pipeline.
